Craftsmanship Over Bloat

Tanager Software was founded on a simple principle: software should be fast, private, and respected as a tool.

Over the last decade, personal computing software has drifted toward bloated web wrappers, sluggish memory footprints, forced subscription locks, and cloud telemetry that hoards your private workflow data.

We build software the other way:

  • Compiled & Native: We build strictly in Go and Swift. Our tools start instantly, run with tiny memory footprints, and integrate seamlessly with macOS system features like the Apple Silicon Neural Engine, ScreenCaptureKit, and CoreAudio.
  • Local-First & Transparent: You own your data. Our applications use transparent, local file formats and SQLite databases (.db) stored on your drive. There are no proprietary cloud silos and no lock-in.
  • CLI + GUI Synergy: We believe command-line interfaces and native graphical user interfaces shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. Our software pairs desktop frontends with terminal daemons operating on identical underlying data in real time.

The Tanager Name

Named after the Scarlet Tanager — a vibrant, agile songbird known for its sharp contrast, focused precision, and remarkable range — our software reflects that same focus: lightweight, razor-sharp tools designed to empower professionals.

Domain Strategy & Online Presence

Tanager Software operates across two primary domains:

  • tanager.dev: Our primary developer and documentation hub, designed for fast typing, documentation lookups, and CLI tool installations.
  • tanagersoftware.com: Our corporate and commercial software home, representing our commercial software releases and business operations.

Both domains are managed under the same infrastructure and guarantee identical privacy standards.
